Solveig Gin is the first release from Far North Spirits, a craft distillery located on a fourth generation working family farm in northwestern MN. Solveig is made from rye grown on Section 4 of the farm. Each botanical is individually distilled to create a flavor profile that is right as rain.

Offering a nose of citrus, pine cones, and a hint of lavender, Solveig combines a creamy entry with an almost ethereal lightness on the palate. Complex and concentrated in the glass after twenty-four hours of air, the gin shows exceptional balance in the mid-palate, with added flavors of thyme and coriander. The finish is rich, persistent, and almost cool, with lingering notes of black olives and fresh grain. It is bottled at 87 proof.
This premium, artisanal spirit is born of AC Hazlet Winter Rye (non-GMO grains) planted and harvested by the distiller on the family farm. Every step of production – milling, mashing, fermenting, distilling and bottling – is done by hand at Far North Spirits.
Individual Botanical Distillation
Solveig is made by distilling each botanical individually to capture its best attributes. Distillations are then blended together to create the final spirit. Although most gin is produced by distilling all botanicals at once in a single run, Far North is committed to this more labor intensive process as it results in a truly superior gin with greater depth and character.
The Scandinavian woman’s name Solveig (we don’t pronounce the g) has deep Nordic roots, combining the elements sól sun and veig strength. We love both the history and the sound of Solveig – soulful, strong and bright. Just like our gin.
The Solveig Negroni
Solveig is congenial in many cocktails, but she’s no wallflower – like all women, she’s stronger than she looks. Here’s one of our favorites:
1.5 oz Solveig Gin
1 oz Campari
1 oz Sweet Vermouth (Carpano Antica is our favorite.)
2 dashes grapefruit bitters
Combine all ingredients in a glass. Add ice. Stir to chill. Garnish with grapefruit peel.
